Renee McLeod-Sordjan Graduates from First Class of Pace University's Newly Named College of Health Professions

2011 Jun 29

As the Institute of Medicine (in its Future of Nursing Report) calls for doubling the number of doctorally prepared nurses by 2020, Pace University, College of Health Professions, Lienhard School of Nursing graduates its first class of Doctors of Nursing Practice (DNP).

On May 22, Pace graduated 20 diverse DNPs, each advanced practice family nurse practitioners. The DNP, a relatively new doctorate in nursing, prepares students for the highest level of clinical practice. Among these 20 graduates is Renee McLeod-Sordjan from Medford, NY.

Through partnerships with clinical agencies, faculty and students in the DNP Scholarly Clinical Mentored Project use a systematic evidence-based approach to assist in improving clinical practice. All student teams, supervised by faculty, have published scholarly articles on best practices related to the focus of their projects.

Pace University established the College of Health Professions early this year. The newly formed college houses the Lienhard School of Nursing and the Physician Assistant (PA) program, formerly within the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, bringing health care studies under one entity at the University. The new college allows for greater multidisciplinary interaction, a trend common in the health sciences professions. The College of Health Professions graduated its first class of health care professionals this year. The Pace curriculum is guided by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Essentials for the DNP. Students throughout the program engage in teamwork, conflict resolution and communication strategies to support them as clinical leaders.

For 105 years, Pace University has educated thinking professionals by providing high quality education for the professions on a firm base of liberal learning amid the advantages of the New York metropolitan area. A private university, Pace has campuses in New York City and Westchester County, New York, enrolling nearly 13,000 students in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in its Lubin School of Business, Dyson College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health Professions, School of Education, School of Law, and Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems. www.pace.edu
