2011 Jun 9

The Pace University Model United Nations (Model UN) team from the Westchester campus shined at the five-day National Model United Nations Conference (NMUN) this spring in New York City, taking the Distinguished Delegation prize and Outstanding Position Papers for their representation of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. The team consisted of 24 Pace students from different majors including Kenneth Beauzile a Political Science major and White Plains resident.

Pace's Westchester team competed against Approximately 210 universities and 5,000 other students worldwide, and was led by political science professor Gregory Julian, PhD.

The team was split up into different committees where each student must – by giving speeches and caucusing – work with delegates representing other nations and non-governmental organizations. The goal is for students to draft resolution papers that work towards solving global problems, while maintaining their countries' policies and belief system.

The Pace New York City Model UN team also competed at a Nationals conference in April and won Distinguished Delegation.

The Pace-Westchester Model UN team also won a Distinguished Delegation award at NMUN 2009 for representing the Republic of Madagascar. Last year at NMUN 2010, they won Honorable Mention on behalf of the Republic of Costa Rica.

The team has won numerous awards from their 20-plus years participating at various Model UN conferences such as the World Model UN in The Netherlands and Mexico, NMUN in NYC, and the Southern Regional Model UN in Atlanta, Georgia, which will be the team's next conference next November.
